Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer Freezing

I was running Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6, when it started to freeze;
no status bar or egg timer, the page would just freeze and I would have to
use end program to get rid of it. In task manager, it would often show two
IE's when I only had one running.

My ISP suggested checking for virus' and spyware then perhaps upgrading to
IE7. I did all this (nothing too nasty was lurking) but I have the same
problem with IE7 and it now sometimes happens to Windows Explorer too.

I can now only access the internet with firefox or netscape!

Can anyone offer any help/advice please?

Thanks.

I may be that some Browser Helper Object (BHO) was installed on your system.
Look in Manage Add-ons (or something like that dealing with Add-ons), and
see if anything looks out of the ordinary.

Since it followed you from IE6 to IE7, it is more than likely. Plus Windows
Explorer has the problem as well.
