Internet Explorer 7 or 8 missing icons in upper right corner

G

GeorgeD

In either IE 7 or 8 on any page when I right click on a subject & select open
in a new window the window opens without the minimize, maximize or close
icons in the upper right corner. Also the frame around the window is missing.
When I resize the window from anywhere around where the frame should be the
icons and frame appear & the window is OK.
I had this problem in IE 7 & thought maybe installing IE 8 would fix it but
it did not.
I have had this problem before on another computer.
Anyone familiar with this?
I have gone through the reset IE procedure but it still doesn't fix this,
also have deleted all temp files & cookies.

Sounds like you had a horked install of IE7 which only persisted after you'd
installed IE8 Beta.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE7 and/or IE8 Beta?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

Norton security scan, AVG Free & Spybot search & destroy are installed. I
started having this problem only a week or so ago, well after original
install of IE 7. I tried a reinstall of IE 7 before installing IE 8 which I
did today, 2/20/09.

Is Spybot Tea Timer enabled?

Did this behavior start after installing Windows Updates about a week ago?

I get auto updates & I'm not sure when IE was last updated & yes to Tea Timer
is enabled

I have since removed IE 7 & 8 which reverts back to IE 6 & do not have the
problem with that version. When I get ambitious I'll try IE 8 again.

In any case, thanks for taking the time to respond to this problem. I
appreciate that.
