Internet Connectivity

I appreciate your taking time to review (and hopefully answer) this. I have
been working through this problem for 2 days now. Maybe you are the 'genie
in the bottle' I have been seeking.
On an XP computer, I can dial up and access the Internet. However, when I
plug in the cable modem (either directly into ethernet port OR through
wireless) I get great signal strength and it shows connected -- and STATUS is
fine. But I cannot access the Internet.
I have run various winsock fixes (including LSPfix and deleting the Winsock
registry keys and rebooting); information that I have gathered from other MS
newsgroups. But the problem seems stuck here ..it gets no worse, and no
better regardless of what fixes I use.
If it is any help .. I am using NIS/NAV 2005 and have found & removed
newdotnet spyware with Adaware and Spybot .. all updated versions.
Please end my frustration! :) Thank you so very much.

Have you unplugged the cable modem and plugged it back in? That often
fixes access problems, especially when moving the cable modem from one
device (wireless router) to another (computer).

Does your computer get an IP address from the cable modem when it's
plugged in directly?

Thank you, Steve. Just following your reply, I cycled both the wireless
router and the cable modem. There is no change to the symptoms. I am
connected at 54 mbs and signal strength is excellent .. just will not connect
to IE. (But it will through dial up)
Thank you for your reply; I'll be watch for more info. I truly appreciate
your time.

You're welcome, Don.

Does your computer get an IP address from the cable modem when you
plug the cable modem directly into the computer's Ethernet port? What
does the "ipconfig /all" command show in that setup? Be sure to cycle
the cable modem power after plugging it into the computer.

Steve,
I hooked it up this evening and cycled the modem .... and it worked fine.
So I did not do the ipconfig /all. I KNEW it was something simple, and all
this time it was just cycling the modem at the right time.
Thank you again for your help and I hope you have a terrific holiday season.
