internet connection

My local area connnection appears to be working but I
cannot connect to the internet. My connection worked last
night when I went to bed and doesnt work this morning. I
tried running ipconfig in the command window and it tells
me that ipconfig is not a recognized internal or external
command. same thing with the ping command. Any guesses?

Since you didn't tell us how you connect to the Internet - dial-up?
cable? dsl? or the name of your ISP - no, I can't guess. Call your ISP
and ask if they are having an outage.
