Internet Connection Sharing

We have a server which as a Broadband connection using an external DSL
Broadband modem. This connection has been setup successfully for Internet
Connection Sharing for other PC's on the peer to peer network.

The only problem is the same server has an internal 56k dial up modem (which
is connected to a different phone line than the broadband line). This is not
setup for web browsing but is used for dial up access for email. When the
email software dials up every hour to check for email, any Internet Explorer
connections sharing the broadband connection stop until the dial up modem
has finished its connection. Once finished, the Internet Connection Sharing
starts to respond again.

In summary, why does a PC on a network stop getting access to the Internet
Sharing Connection on a server if that server also has another (dialup in
this case\) connection running and is there a way round this.

Thanks

When the ICS server dials up for email, the dial-up connection
temporarily supersedes the DSL connection for Internet access on the
server. Since the other computers get their Internet access through
the server, it affects them, too.

Are you sure that you need a separate dial-up connection to get email?
Have you tried reading that email while connected to DSL only? Most
email providers let you read their email through a connection to any
Internet service provider. Sending email is a different story.

Another possibility is to use a broadband router to share the DSL
connection between all of the computers. There would be no need for
an ICS host, so a dial-up connection on one of the computers would
have no effect on the other computers.
