Internet connection problem (PPPoE) with Vista

When I try to start a connection (using wizard) with my new Dell PC, the only
option I get is a PPPoE, but my ISP does not use this. I was on the phone for
over 2 hours with Dell, and they can't do anything. So it's impossible to
make a connection. I've been working on this for hours. Any help would be
appreciated.

You could get a route with built in modem and then the settings are
configured in the router. Just conect router to PC via network cable.

I have a D-Link -524 wireless router that I use to connect my laptop. Then I
also cable to two PCs. The other Dell PC does not have Vista and works fine.
I replaced the other older PC with another Dell that has Vista, and then this
PPPoE issue started. I did a quick search last night and others are also
having this problem, but I have not seen a solution yet.

Thanks.

I'm the IT manager for one of the largest independent broadband providers in
Cleveland.

We've discontinued all support for Windows Vista due to the PPPoE issues.

We don't offer PPPoE, and I don't see us starting to just because Microsoft
imposed their security requirements on us.

Do you not have a Router/modem? If so, this set-up is all done at the ADSL
Modem log-in page and you can select PPPoA there.

In other words by not trying to use the connection wizard from within Dell
and Vista??

This is silly. The OS has no involvement with PPPoE.
Nothing needs to be set up on the PC in order to have a
broadband connection. Connection/logon routines, if any,
are handled in the modem or router.
