INTERNAL search function

I cannot use the INTERNAL search function without my computer (w/ WinXP Pro
plus SP2) crashing or fouling up. I now use Google Desktop Search as a
substitute. It seems to be better, but that's not the point.

This problem (the internal search function not working correctly) seems to
be quite serious. Would anyone there know what caused this problem -- and
know how to rectify it?

Thank you,

Try this: Start > Run and type in

%windir%\inf

Locate the file "srchasst.inf", right click on it and choose Install. You may need XP CD. After doing this restart Windows.

I do that but my Windows CD is labeled: "Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows
XP Professional including Service Pack 1a". I have Service Pack 2 installed,
not 1a. Is it okay to use that CD?

Thanks,
