Internal Error 2727 when installing

It seems to happen right at the moment when the blue bar starts to go to the
right indicating that the installer is calculating the space requirements. It
makes no difference where I try to install the product, any drive. What's
going on? I have a lot of GB worth of space on both drives and I'm the admin
on this box.

The error is actually coming from the process that is trying to uninstall the
old AntiSpyware product (Beta1) before installing the new product (Beta 2).
I'll try to reboot in safe mode and see what happens.

I had to reboot in safe mode, use a registry cleaner to remove any instance
of AntiSpyware (Beta 1) product being mentioned in it and then delete the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware directory altogether. That worked. The
Microsoft Defender installer finally allowed me to continue with the
installation and all went well. Case closed.
