Intermittent Noise Problem

I'm getting an intermittent noise (every 2 seconds), which sounds like
an old manual typewriter keystroke. It was joined the other day by a
buzzing bee. It disappears for a while when I restart, eventually to
return. How can I get rid of this annoying sound?

Quick way is to unplug the speakers. Correct way is to determine what
program you have started that is providing this entertainment.

Does it come from your speakers or the computer box?
If it's from the speakers, check the sounds tab in sounds and audio devices
in control panel.
If it's from your computer box, it's probably from some sort of
malufunctioning moving part.

If the sound comes from your computer box, the moving parts hypothesis is
probably valid. I have had both a hard drive and CPU fan go bad at different
times, and they gave some audible warning. Open up the case and try to
locate the source of the sound. I recommend using either an automotive
stethoscope or a rigid tube of some sort.. The tube can even be rolled-up
cardboard. Put one end on your ear and point the other end at various points
inside the box to locate the source of the sound.
PS: better to deal with failing hardware sooner rather than later.

It comes from the speakers. It's not generated by the sounds tab.
I'listened to all those sounds and it's not there. Plus, it remains
the same no matter which sound scheme i enable for the computer.
