Intellimouse Wireless Explorer 2 How do I Re-Assign Buttons?

I've just installed my new mouse with v5 of the
Intellimouse software, now I'm unable to choose which
keys I want to assign to the different buttons. In
earlier versions of the software, I could choose the
button setup depending on the application. Now I'm only
able to choose from the assignments listed. I've tried
earlier versions of the software, but none work
effectively with this mouse (the cursor jumps all over
the screen).

I need to be able to assign different keys to the buttons
otherwise my games won't work properly eg Splinter Cell
2, centre mouse should select binoculars, but the damn
software wont let me re-assign it

You can not with v5 of the Inteliipoint software. MS did not make that
feature aavailable in v5.
