Insufficient Resources/windows Updates

Walter Wood

I built a computer for a friend a few months back and he is now having
problems with WinXP. Windows Update will display three updates to install
but it will only complete the install for one of them. It will install
KB82415 but not install the latest two updates, KB 828035 and KB823182.
These end with a message ". . . insufficient system resources to complete
...." I have tried downloading the files and installing manually but then
get a message that the registry could not be updated.

I did a system restore rollback to about a week ago before these updates
were first installed but that did not help.

I tried to check the HD for errors and schedule scandisk and rebooted but it
did not check the drive. I tried the same thing with Norton Speed Disk with
the same results.

Immediately after the system restore I was also getting the insufficient
resource message in regard to reinstalling a USB device. At that point I
deleted some of the unnecessary items in the StartUp folder that allowed the
USB device to install but not the updates.

This computer really has very little running on it and is primarily used for
email and digital photos. A Nikon program is running for the camera but
little else.

Anyone have any suggestions on what is wrong and how to fix it?

TIA
Walter

When you installed XP was it the Old Corp Version that was
leaked when XP first came out. THey blocked Several Keys
so they can no longer get Updates.
