Hello,
I have a 1GHz Athlon processor, 378 Meg of RAM, and an 80 Gig HDD
running Win XP Pro. I'm trying to convert my hdd from FAT32 to NTFS
using the convert utility. I start the conversion, it goes so far and
then I get an Insufficient memory error and something about a file that
begins HOT. It flashes so quickly on the screen it's hard to write down.
I have 38 Gig available on the drive. I saw something on the web that
would make me think that I need to look at my Vcache settings. I have
576 Meg set as the Total paging file size for all drives.
I tried defragging my drive and the same thing happens. I tried running
in verbose mode, it shows a lot more messages, they flash up on the
screen so fast that it's impossible to read them, but it doesn't stop
when it's done. Is there any way of getting convert to write out to a
log file or something? It doesn't make much sense to show all of these
messages if you have to sit in front of your computer watching intently
for hours to try to write down the last message that appears on the
screen onto a piece of paper.
I've tried running in Safe mode command prompt only, but it still says
that I have to reboot in order to run convert. Safe mode command prompt
only in XP Pro, doesn't look like a true command prompt only. There's a
title bar at the top of what looks like a DOS window. I'd like to put
the convert in a batch file so that I could put a pause at the end of
it, and capture the last message, it just flashes some junk up on the
screen and then reboots.. I don't think that's possible since it can
only run when the computer is first booted up.
