Instant Search does not work in Outlook 2007

On a computer running Windows XP Pro w/SP2 and all the latest updates, I have
installed Outlook 2007 and added my old PST file that I had been using with
Outlook 2003. The native search functionality worked OK. Then, as recommeded,
I installed Windows Desktop Search, and the search stopped working, although
I checked indexing and tried a few changes to its settings that I could think
of. I ended up uninstalling WDS in order to restore the native search
functionality, because it was important for me to be able to quickly find the
contacts I am looking for.

Now I am trying to switch to Windows Vista. I have installed Outlook 2007
under Vista and got the same problem. Under Vista, native search in Outlook
2007 has been replaced with Instant Search, which is built into Vista.
Therefore, I cannot remove it and go back to whatever search functionality is
built into Outlook 2007 itself.

This problem is the major snag that is preventing me from switching my main
activity from WinXP to Vista. I would greatly appreciate if someone helped me
to resolve this problem.

I'll keep looking for a solution, I'll keep you posted.

I'm not an Apple naysayer anymore thanks to the one dumbass at
Microsoft in charge of Office 2007.
