Apparently you can enable IM within Outlook 2003. The Enable person names
smart tag option is selected but anytime I try to enable the Display Presence
status in the from field it selects but as soon as I close it and re open the
box is deselected. I guess two questions, how do I get this enabled and
secondly if any of you know is there a setting within Exchange that might
have to be enabled to allow IM to operate within Outlook when users are
connected to Exchange 2003? Thanks!

Ask in an Exchange group - they are more likely to be familiar with obscure
Exchange settings such as what you are asking.

In Outlook 2003, the Smart Tags feature provides some integration with instant messaging. The "Enable person names smart tag" option is related to recognizing and providing additional information about people mentioned in emails. However, the "Display Presence status in the From field" might not be a standard feature in Outlook 2003. It's possible that this specific feature was introduced in later versions of Outlook.
