Installing XP updates

I use Outlook Express as my email service. When I get notified of updates and
install them, it switches my Outlook Express to Outlook and I have to restore
to get my express back. I have be asked on separate occasions after updating
if I wanted to make Express my default email service and I have said yes.
This time I am not given this option. Is there a way to install the updates
and keep Outlook Express as my email service?

Thank you for any assistance anyone can give.

If I uninstall it will that reactivate the Outlook Express? I do not see the
Outlook Express anywhere on my desktop or in my files.

Outlook Express is part of your operating system and is installed with that
or updated with IE
Outlook Express is a completely different, and seperate application to
Outlook
It is usually under C:\Program Files\Outlook Express and I would expect
there to be a shortcut on your desktop or task bar

Assuming you have Office installed on your PC, in order to uninstall
outlook, you would need to use your Office cd to modify the installation to
remove (Set not to run from PC) outlook only

The default email client can be set under Internet Options

Best bet is to junk the Microshit stuff and download Thunderbird for free.

If you don't use Outlook, uninstall it (in Add/Remove Programs, click on the
Office item, then Change, then Add/Remove Components.) Only way I know to
accomplish the task. Every time you touch the Office installer (which any
Office Update will do) it resets associations and defaults.

(#13) Microsoft Outlook updates change the default mail handler to Microsoft
Outlook

Workarounds include:

=> If you don't use any of OL's other functionality (e.g., Calendar), remove
it from your install of Office.

=> Use Automatic Updates' Notify Only option then decline to install any
Outlook updates.

=> Change your default update source from Microsoft Update to Windows
Update, then update Office manually via Office Update website (and decline
to install any OL updates).
