Installing XP Professional Service Pak 1 - Is it there?

KELLY M

My computer crashed so I installed a new hard drive and
began my installations.
I installed my Windows XP Home Edition and then my XP
Professional Service Pak 1. However, my computer start up
screen still says Home Edition. How do I install the
Professional Service Pak 1 and how do I know it is
installed? It does not appear to have upgraded to XP
Professional.

I have to purchase Norton antivirus to remove a virus and
don't know if I can purchase Norton for XP Professional or
should just stick with Home Edition and purchase the anti
virus for XP Home Edition.
NOTE: My XP Professional Service Pak 1 had not been
installed previously and it is about 8 mos old.

The service pack install does not upgrade your PC from Home to Pro. You
should now have Windows XP Home edition with Service Pack 1 install.
Service Pack 1 is identical for both Home and Pro, upgrading the components
of the OS whether or Home or Pro. It does not switch you from Home to Pro.

As far as Norton Antivirus, their current version (2004) is for XP Home or
Pro, so you would just purchase Norton Antivirus 2004.

Norton’s Virus and Symantec 2004 programs have been having activation
problem. Yes now Symantec is requiring activation.
