installing xp home over xp pro

Thanks, didn't owr. I just heard cd start to spin, then
stopped. bios was set to boot from CD. oh, well.

It could be that the CD drive has gone south on you. Guess the only way to
find out for certain is to swap it out with a known working drive (either
purchase a new one, or temporarily "borrow" one from another PC).

Thanks,Patti. I hadn't seen your reply until now. I think
I might be out of options. Even if I could
someghwo "borrow" or substitute someone's cd drive, and it
worked, i'd then have get a new one for the laptop. and, i
can't justify that expense or the time involved.
