Installing Windows Xp sp2 recovery console

Hi,

I downloaded, saved, extracted and installed xp sp2. Now I am trying to
install recovery console but whenever I run c:\I386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons or
c:\filepath\I386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons where "filepath" is the folder of
sp2 files that I downloaded, I get this message:

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is
newer than the version on the CD. "

but I am not using the Original XP sp1 and as I mentioned, I use sp2 files
which are already installed or saved in my computer.

I would appreciate any comments please.

thanks in advance

Hi

If you have upgraded to SP2 and you are using a CD from a previous version
of XP, you will see that error message. To install the Recovery Console in
SP2, you will need to create a slipstreamed SP2 CD.

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

Hi Will,

thanks for the info, as I mentioned I was not using SP1 CD, i was trying to
install it using the saved or installed sp2 files in my computer which did
not work. does this happen because sp2 is just an upgrade for sp1 (for the
saved one in my computer)? what about the other sp2 files which are already
installed in my computer. Why when I try to use them still i get that
message?

Anyway this time I used the slipstreamed sp2 cd that I made the other day
using your info. and it worked fine.

thanks

hi john,

slipstreamed sp2 means integrated sp2 which means you have your sp1 cd and
by some means you integrate (slipstream) it to sp2 (please correct me if I am
wrong). If you follow the webpage provided by will you will get some more
info. on that.

Hi

Using a slipstreamed SP2 CD install the Recovery Console. It needs to be
integrated with XP - using just the SP2 files doesn't work.

Thanks Davoud; I get the concept. But I cannot say it strikes me with
its clarity...How would we have said this in older days when clients
were programs or software, folders were directories and so on ...
