Installing Vista SP2

P

Paul Calcagno

I've just been offered Windows SP2 via my Windows Update manager. My history
on this computer is excellent with regards to updates so I'm inclined to
have this update installed. Everything regarding updates is current except
for IE-8.

My one reservation is that I've declined to update IE-8 in the recent past
as I'm a Firefox user and I've seen all the traffic about how cloggy IE has
been for some.

I tried finding out if Vista SP2 includes IE-8 but am having no luck. Can
someone tell me if Vista SP2 includes IE-8? And if so, is there a way to
download SP2 but choose not to have IE-8 included.

Thanks much in advance............................Paul C.

Have you checked "Control Panel - Windows Updates - View Available updates"?

Mine shows IE8 available; the "upgrade" can be toggled off though.

Also, FWIW, mine only shows a SP2 available for "The 2007 Microsoft®
Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)"; it doesn't show that a system SP is
available.

Propman, thanks for your reply. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough with my
request. I'm trying to make sure that if I deselect IE8 as a stand-alone
WU, but request that Vista SP2 be download, I want a way to make sure I
don't get IE-8 bundled in to SP2.

Is there a way to do that or would invoking an SP2 update automatically
force IE-8 to come along which I don't want?

Thanks again...................Paul C.

Jim, thanks for your helpful remarks about posting. I'm embarrassed to say
I don't know how to post to 2 separate newsgroups simultaneously. Perhaps
you could advise.

Also, which Newsgroup did you post your response to me. I can't seem to find
your response..

Thanks........... Paul C.

Propman, my WU showed a few weeks ago that I could choose to install IE-8
which I've declined by un checking it. It also now shows that I have a 350
MB file called KB948465 (called Windows Service Pack 2) available but with
no internal details.

Which is another reason to crosspost, not multipost, see the link in my
signature for info. And IE8 is NOT part of SP2.

SP2 is indeed released. It came to me yesterday via WU, and IE8 is NOT
part of SP2. I installed IE8 and SP2 (separately) in my x64 machine
without a problem.

Double checked the MS website today and found out there is indeed a
second Vista SP....for some reason it's not being listed on either of
the two Vista systems (different manufacturers plus different Vista
version installs) I have here, even after implementing a manual "View
Available Updates". Maybe it's a Canadian buglet..... ;-)

Thanks for the reply. :)
