Installing USB 2.0

Ryan Trentelman

Hello,

I recently purchased an Asus P4C800 motherboard which came
with the most vauge instructions on installing USB 2.0,
and what to expect to be listed in device manager after
doing so that at this point I am a little confused. Below
I have listed the steps that I took and what my results
were:

1) Install windows
2) Download SP1 and all availble critical updates
3) Install INF driver
4) Right click on USB controller (under other devices),
properties, Reinstall driver.

After I did that my controller was listed as:

Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller

and my root hubs as:

USB Root Hub

Is this what I should be expecting from my installation,
or have I done something wrong (remember I'm using the
Microsoft USB driver not one from Asus because they did
not provide one) and I read here:

http://www.usbman.com/Guides/checking_for_usb_2.htm

that if it reads ENHANCED it is USB 2.0 compliant, but
when I have done this on other ppl's PCs (I know my
brother's did this) their Root Hubs were listed as USB
Root Hub 2.0.

If my installation is correct I am just looking for
verification prior to moving forward with the rest of my
OS setup. If it is not...what order would you recommend I
install my devices/updates in in order to ensure this
doesn't happen again?

Thanks in advance,

Ryan Trentelman

If it reads ENHANCED it is USB 2.0 compliant and is
listed correctly. Did you install the Intel Chipset drivers
from the ASUS motherboard CD? If you did, everthing
is fine.
