Rajesh

Hi,

I have installed my system with Windows XP Emdedded SP 2 Feature Pack 2007.
The Operating System is running fine.

Now I am trying to install SQL 2005 Express on this system, while installing
it gives me an error that SQL Server 2005 Express cannot be installed on the
removable media.

"SQL Server Setup cannot write to removable media. To continue, specify a
directory on a hard disk attached to the computer where SQL Server will be
installed"

Any sugession how can I install the SQL Server 2005 Express on this device?

Hi Sean,

What is the meaning of installing SQL 2005 before XPe tools?

I think I did not put my question correctly.

I have created a Windows XPe images and copied to the CF Card. Then
completed the setup of XPe. So now I have a running Windows XP
Embedded on Compact Flash disk (I have tried both SanDisk and Seagate
CF Cards).

On this running Windows XPe when I open My Computer, it shows my C:
drive as "Removable Media". Now when I am trying to install SQL
Express 2005, it gives me this error - "SQL Server Setup cannot write
to removable media. To continue, specify a directory on a hard disk
attached to the computer where SQL Server will be installed"

And it looks like that it is not possible to install SQL Server
express on Removable Media. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Alternately if some can suggest any method of converting my Seagate/
SanDisk CF Cards from "Removable Media" to "Fixed Disk".

Thanks

Rajesh

Hello Rajesh,
the fixed disk CF is an old issue with XPE. With removable ones you can have
only one partition.
CF makers do both fixed and removable versions of their CF.
You shold ask your CF supplier to give you a fixed one. I use Sandisk CF
5000 and PQI AC46, both fixed and industrial grade.

Raffaele
