My Computer Info: Toshiba laptop, satellite 1905-277, Pentium 4 CPU 1.60 GHz
256 MB of RAM
OS: Windows XP Home Edition with SP1
MS Office: Office 2002 (Is it different from Office XP?)

I downloaded Office XP SP2 from Microsoft site.
when I tried to install it the following error message appears:

Windows box title: Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an attachment path to a folder containing
the installation

package 'PROPLU.MSI' in the box below.
Use feature from:

I read related MS knowledgebase: Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 268800
FIX: Windows Installer Must Have Original Source Files When You Apply a
Patch

It talkes about Windows Installer but apparantly it is for Windows NT and
2000 and it doesn't
mention about Win XP.
My question: 1- How can I solve this error message?
2- Is there any XP equvalent of Windows Installer?

Your comments are highly appreciated.
TIA Rasoul

Hi,

In the cases that I have worked, this had to do with Office being opened or
run for the first time on a profile that didn't have the initial install
activated or installed previously from there.

In other words, there was this setting missing in the registry:
UserData"=dword:00000001

See if the edit on line 171 (right hand side helps):

Proplus.msi is a file on the root directory of the Office Installation CD.
Try again, and when this message comes up, insert your Office CD and
navigate to the root.

Post in a more appropriate group with OFFICE in the title. This group
is for the XP OS. Bye bye now!

Dear Kelly and Gordon

Thanks for your comments. I found the PROPLUS.MSI file in the installation
CD and provided it but another message box appeared saying:

Title of Windows: Office XP Service Pack 2
The expected version of the product was not found on your system.

The version of Office I have, reads XP in the window appearing on the
startup of software's (like Excel, Word) but when I check the Help|About
Microsoft Excel, it says Excel 2002. Are these two (XP and 2002) exactly
same? What are the difference?
Still I haven't succeeded to install SP2 for my Office XP. with this
message I think this SP doesn't fit my Office.

Then you need to download the Administrative Update - it's about 50 MB I'm
afraid......
