Installing New Western Digital SATA HD

B

Bill

I am trying to install a new WD SATA HD under windows XP
and have run into a problem.
The drive posts under BIOS and in Device Manager/Disk
Drives in WINXP, but I am unable to see the drive in Disk
Management to format or partition the drive. I have
adjusted the jumper settings from primary to slave to
cable select and nothing.
I have two other drives installed on is primary and the
other is secondary under IDE/ATA, they are not SATA
drives. I am using an ABIT IS7-G motherboard? I would
appreciate any help you could provide.

Thanks

Not true, sky..... You can partition and format the drive in XP... You
just can't format anything larger than 32gb as a FAT32 drive.... It
only allows NTFS drive beyond that size....

If you do partition and format the drive as a FAT32 drive, under
Win98SE or whatever, it will read/write to it just fine.... just won't
reformat it...

Did you download DataLifeguard from the WD web site. It makes a boot floppy.
Boot with it to setup the hard drives.
