Installing modem drivers

Jack

Hello,
Vista RC2 behaves strange. It allows me to install modem driver
(not signed though) and the modem works correctly.

However the next time I start Vista the modem does not work and checking
Device Manager the problem is:
"
Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the
driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code
is 10.
"

I have tried 2 different modems and I have the same problem with both.

Your thoughts appreciated,
Jack

Reinstall your drivers by right-clicking on the driver installation
file and select "run as administrator".

Thank you.
What is driver installation file?
I do not have any executable. I use Device Manager to install the modem by
pointing to the folder holding all modems files, none of them is executable.

Not sure if this helps, but my modem wasn't supported by Vista. So I
scoured the .inf files and saw that US Robotics USR Modem USR5671
(805671) was supported as native. It also happens to be dirt cheap
(£12 in the UK) so I bought one, and Vista x64 RTM is happy with it.

Yes correct. I use the modem for....well....what a modem is normally
used for. Dial-up (when ADSL is down for some reason) and
sending/receiving faxes.
