Installing legal windows on not so legal windows machine...

S

sandsdenver

I am wanting to install a newly purchased legal copy of XP Pro on a
company notebook that does not have a legit version on it. Is there a
way to install it (so it can be legal and use the windowsupdate
feature) so that users data is not possibly compromised?

Note that I do have to install it (for legal reasons) and am not
interested in hacks to use be able to use the windowsupdate feature.

Hi, The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for users attempting
to change their current non-genuine Product Key to a genuine COA sticker or genuine
Product Key - all without a reinstall!

see for instructions
www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/pkuinstructions.aspx
The Key Update Tool will attempt an automatic internet activation but it that's not
possible, the key will be changed regardless and you'll have to telephone to
activate.
