INSTALLING FRON NET

I have been having a problem for a while installing downloads from the
Internet. It happened example, when I attempted to use Symantec's auto fix
tool. I thought the problem was with their site. However, I am wrong. I was
asked, for a reason I do not understand when I tried to use my scanner, to
installMSML 4.0
when I found and downloaded it, the installation stopped with a message as
below. The same issue that I'm receiving with any other download via a
webpage.

This is obviously a serious problem and I really do not know how to get
around this. I have cleared my Internet cache and all the other settings in
Internet Explorer, but it does not help. Reinstalling Windows XP also did not
help.

Please someone help!

A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file
C:\Documents and settings\ user\ local settings\Temporary Internet
Files content. IE5\ [and then whatever it is i am attempting to install via
the internet downloads]

Save the file and installing works? (preferred method anyway)
Checked to make sure you are not emptying the TIFs at IE exit?
IE6?
Tried moving the TIFs elsewhere?
Changed the size of the TIFs to something more reasonable - like 512MB?

TIFs at IE exit?"

come to terms with computers. My friends think i jnow what i am doing but

Adding to Shenan advice try this:
1= The best is to scan your computer with online scanner from here:
http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan
http://www.avast.com ; if you don't have Av you can get a free one from there.
And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
Then try to Clear your caches, delete Internet Files and cookies then to
accesss the IE properties follow this:
Click start >> Control Panel >> Double Click Networking and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options, on the IE Properties window
click on General Tab and then click the Settings Button there Try to Resize
your TIF file Size between 50- 80 MBs click [OK] to confirm your
Changes.
Click On Advanced tab and scroll down Under Security Option and uncheck this
box:
[&] Security
[ ] Empty Temporary Internet Files folders when browser is closed
Reboot your machine and try the download .
If still no joy I think thee is something is corrupting your download, like
webpage accelerator software, firewall, Virus scanner or bad/corrupted
download folder or TIF folder you need to delete the old one and create a new
one ( but first try the easiest one).
So try to Turn your Anti-virus OFF if you have one while you are downloading
(but be sure the website is secure enough to not get infected and Turn it
back ON again) and try to download and offline try to install.

2= Another to try is CHKDSK, by double clicking your * My Computer* and on
the partition (C:\) Right Click it and select Properties and on the partition
properties click on Tools Tab and click on Check Disk Button.
If you get a message that the Check disk will perform the task on Reboot
click Yes and Reboot your Machine and the Check Disk will start on boot up,
it will take a while so try to have a cup of tea to keep you busy!!.
Then when logged on try the download and install.
Please perform one step (1,2) at a time and reboot your machine and try the
download and install.
P.S How much disk space you have on your computer and RAM?.
HTH.
Regards,
nass
