Installing Fax

B

Bill

I am running XP Pro, fully updated, (yes my modem is capable of faxing) and
am trying to install the fax service. I used to have it installed on this
same installation of Windows and removed it for lack of needing it....well
now I need it again and when I go through the installation process (control
panel>add/remove programs>add/remove windows components>place a checkmark in
the box next to the fax listing and click next, it goes through the
installation wizard and tells me it completed succesfully, but there is
nothing for fax listed anywhere (it's listed in the printers section if I
remember correctly) even when I go back into add/remove windows components
the fax services is UN checked as if I never installed it. What gives? Any
help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Setup seem to be failing silently. Look at %windir% for the file
'FaxSetup.log'. Open it with write.exe and browse towards the end of the
file. See if anything obvious strikes you. May be a error code or something
like. If so you can check in MSDN what the error code means.
If it doesnt help send the file to (e-mail address removed) for further
investigation.
