Installing an OEM copy of MIcrosoft Word 2000

I need held with installing an OEM (Original Equipment
Manufacturer)copy of Microsoft Word 2000. I can't find any
retailer that now has on hand a Microsoft Word 2000. The
only MS Word 2000 that I could find was on eBay, and these
were all OEM's. I think I read somewhere that these OEM
copies can only be installed on new computer hard drives
or hard drives that have been newly reformatted. Is this
true? I need some help with determining on how to install
this application on my computer. I have a Gateway, with
Windows 98SE operating system. Can anyone help me. I
really need this word processor. I can buy Microsoft Word
2003, but this will not work on Windows 98. Help!

Generally speaking, an OEM version of any software that is being sold
without hardware is illegal. I personally wouldn't touch it with a barge
pole. Given the number of users who are still running Windows 98, I would
have thought that MS might keep Office 2000 available (but I guess they want
to sell more copies of Windows XP).
