Installing a router

I have recently purchased a laptop and a LINKSYS Router. My ISP is Wanadoo
Broadband. I appear to have connected the router correctly however my
computer does not seem to be recognising the router's modem and therefore I
am unable to connect to the Internet.

Can anyone help???

If I remember correctly Wannado uses PPPOE (Requires a username and password
to connect).
If this is true your router has to be PPPOE compatible. Most are these days.
You may have to set it up in the router to include your username and
password. Check your Linksys documentation on how to do this or go to the
linksys support site.

Hi,

First, determine if you are connected to the router. It should have the
default lan address, open an Internet Explorer window and type it into the
address bar. Typically, this would be http://192.168.1.1 for a linksys
router. It should prompt for a username and password, both should be
"admin". If you are connecting to the router, you should now see the
router's configuration and you want to check the internet connection
settings and be sure they match those given you by Wanadoo. If it fails to
connect to the router, then either the machine is not connected correctly or
your laptop configuration is incorrect. If you are trying to do this
wirelessly, you should try a cable first. The router's wireless setup may
not be complete.

Make sure that you turned the cable modem and router both off
then back on -- I have seen this before where people just connect
them together and it does not work. The router and cable modem
need to talk to each other to set up the connection and often
just plugging in a new device to the cable modem without
powering down then back up causes it to not talk. I am not
familiar with your ISP, but at least with Comcast, if I connect a
new router etc to the cable modem without cycling power on
both, they sit there like 5th grade boys and girls --- neither one
will talk to the other one !
