installing a new hd

i have insalled the new hd but a couple problms have compe up

1) when i start the computer it says floppy disk(s) fail (40)... which i
belive refers to the way the cables are installed but as far as i know they
are correct.

2) when i did the datd transfer it from old drive to new drive it created a
couple partitions i dont want or lioek and would like to format and do data
xfer myself?

`1. Check the floppy drive cable and make sure that the side with the
red stripe or other marking is orientated so that the stripe or marking
is next to the No. 1 pin on the connector on the drives and the
motherboard.

2. How are you planning to remove and create partitions: fdisk, &c or
some other tool such as Partition Magic?
