Installing a new copy of WinXP home

I have xphome sp2 on my machine and it works BUT, a long time ago when I
installed it, it put some files on my C:/ drive and he main part on my D:/
(separate drives).
Over the year it has had a few problems so I decided to re-install it all on
C:/drive. So, using nLite i made up a slipstream CD with my original WinXP cd
and the SP2 CD. So far so good.
I set the bios to boot from the CD and I got the "Inspecting H/Ware - Set-up
is loading...... " then lots of files flashing across the bottom of the
screen. Then I got "Starting Windows" and a few more files across the bottom
of the screen until I got to "Loading Keyboard lib...."Then the entire
machine just shuts down. I tried a couple of times with the same result. Then
i tried it with my original WinXP home CD and the same thing happens.
Luckily, my original INSTALLED ver of Win XP still works so i can still say
"HELP PLEASE..........."
MANY THANKS

A further point....... I tried loading the set-up from windows explorer and I
got the "What do you want to do screen?" I tried install winxp and got a
message that instal could not continue because the WinXP on the computer was
newer than the version on the CD. S, where to now?
I think that the problems is coming from the fact that my winxp is spread
over my c:/ & D:/ disks. Do I have to reformat BOTH hard disks? If so, how do
I do that? Winxp doesn't seem to like re-formatting itself!!
HELP!!!!

Having windows on C: and other programs on another drive is not going to
cause any problems

Usually winxp installs fail due to;
iffey memory
damaged cd
iffey cd drive
iffey hd

You cannot install via explorer, like that

Thanks for your info DL. I think that you hit it on head with iffey CD. I
finally got it to work OK. I did a memory check/test before I started and it
was all OK
I have just tried to activate WinXP - which i didn't think I would have to
because I haven't changed my hardware much - and i got a message that I have
already activated this copy more times than allowed??? I think I have
re-installed it twice after the initial install (including this time). Do you
happen to know how many times is too many?
Best regards,

You just use phone activation, if online baulks.
There is no 'too many' it just means it was activated previously not to long
ago 'so why are you activating again?'
