Installing a Network printer using Windows XP

I have a HP Laserjet 4 Plus printer. I have added an internal print server
called HP JetDirect to it. I have everything working using Windows Vista
Home Premium.

I am unable to configure Windows XP to 'find' this printer. Its IP address
is 192.168.0.7. That was all the info I needed for VISTA. I have tried
without success to use this IP info with XP's 'add printer' under control
panel. What am I missisng?

Setup a new print port pointing to the IP.

Add printer --> next --> local printer... --> next --> create a new port --> standard
TCP/IP port --> next
Provide IP, 192.168.0.7

Run the add printer wizard, Select local printer>standard tcp/ip port.

Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. My HP setup for network printing..

I was using -->Network Printer, NOT -->Local Printer. I don't understand why
a 'local' printer is installed when its on a network.

Again, thanks.

Because you create a local port that just happens to point to the TCP/IP stack instead of
USB or parallel ports.
