Installation Problem

I need help to reinstall my windows 2000 professional
operating system, because I am experiencing the following
problem: I installed Win 2000 first as a second operating
system on a separate drive D:\. The installation proceeded
smoothly, but when I attempted to access the new operating
system I received a small message window with,"this
program has performed an illegal operation and will be
shut down." Once I acknowledged it, it would sometimes
continue as if everything was normal, but sometime later
the screen would freeze in a vertical striped pattern from
which there was no exit, except turn off power.
I was unable to locate an uninstall for the new
operating system, so I deleted all the new windows files
on drive D:\ and attempted to reinstall windows 2000 from
the original installation CD. Now however I do get the
message, "you can not upgrade your windows installation to
Windows 2000 because you have more than one operating
system on your computer. Upgrading one operating system
can cause problems with files shared by the other
operating system and therefore not permitted."
Once I acknowledge this message I get, " Setup can not
continue bvecause upgrade functionality is disabled and
your copy of win 2000 only allows upgrades."
I have windows 98 as my present operating system, but it
is no longer as reliable as it was before I innstalled the
second operating system. I need to upgrade to the newer
windows 2000.

Are you looking to continue dual-booting with win9x? Or wanting to clean
install?
