Installation of Windows XP SP2 on Formatted Hard Drive

During the installation process for Win XP Home SP2 I receive a number of
errors of the following form:

Setup cannot copy the file: bootvid.dll

The file names change but the error message is the same. If I tell the
machine to retry the file sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not. I
am attempting to install this on a freshly formatted drive. I have run
scandisk from a disk and there are no bad sectors or errors on the hard
drive. I am not sure what could be causing this problem. Any advice would be
appreciated. Thank you.

it seems you are trying this on a number of computers, right?
so it must be the media you are using wich is defect, try another CD

if not, you are trying this on a single computer
the most likely is a faulty RAM disk wich means there can be something
wrong with one of the RAM banks
try another bank or taking one out and swapping it out if it keeps
giving errors

it could be anything but in my experience it's faulty RAM in most of
the cases
