Installation of dotnet framework 3.5 does not finish

I tried to install the final release Dotnet 3.5 Framework on my Thinkpad XP
PRO(with very ample memory and disk). After a very long time, the progress
bar finally reaches the end but I never receive the Finish button or any
indication that the install is done (only the Cancel button remains visible).
I'm pretty sure it's not done since when the system tried to go into sleep
mode I got the warning message that the setup is not complete. I'm fearful
that if were to hit cancel at this point since it might cause seerious
windows problems.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

Windows Installer should be able to rollback the installation after you hit
cancel, and your system will be as if you never started the setup to begin
with.

Sometimes the setup takes a long time to complete because the installer
NGENs all the assemblies at the end of the install. I've had a few MSI
installers take rather long to complete, too. The progress bar is, IMO, not
a very good indication of installer progress.

I hit Cancel - but it's about 2 hours and no conclusion. The Cancel button
is disabled and the x out is disabled as well. I may have no choice but
to kill the job overtly. Any precautions that I should take? thanks.
