Installation of a Program

I am helping a person install a new program on their computer. They have XP
Home edition. I cannot install be program because of this error message
that stops the install completely:
'The InstallShield Engine(ikernel.exe) could not be launched.
No such interace supported'.

This pops up as soon as I run setup.exe.

HELP!
