Installation Issue

I have just installed Word 2000. When I start typing in a
document, the entire line turns black and I can't see what
I'm typing. When I press the Enter key, the new line turns
black. The only way I can clear the black is to do a down
arrow, but as soon as I come back up to the line and start
typing, it turns black again.

What's going on?
