installation error - do not have access to make required system config mods

Hello,
I have a cusotmer trying to install our software. He gets
an error at the very end of the install that says "you do
not have access to make the required system configuration
modifications. Please rerun this installation from an
administrator account."
This in on an XP laptop. He has tried installing as the
default Admin and as his personal login, both are in teh
admin group. The error occurs with both logins.
Anybody know anything about this one. This is the first
time such an error has occurred while installing our
software.

Unfortunately, Carla, since you didn't tell us the name of your software
or anything about it, we can't really help you. If this is the first
time you've experienced an error like this, then your programmers need
to talk to your client and see what's different about his particular
computer. This is a common error with software that was written for
older operating systems which didn't have permissions. If this is the
first XP computer your software has been installed on, then your
programmers will need to make the necessary adjustments. They probably
know to check on MSDN.

Hi Malke,
The software it VidCAD (based on AutoCAD OEM). We have
tested it many time on XP, and I have many customers that
have successfully installed it and are running it with no
errors. Getting our programmers to look at an issue is
difficult, so I posted here. A general search I did on
Google revealed that many differnt software companies had
this issue, but I never found any solutions. I could not
find anything on msdn.

Hi, Carla. Well, the only thing to do is find out what is different
about this customer's computer. There are so many combinations of
hardware and drivers, software, etc. possible in pc's that is is
impossible to guess what is causing the issue from a Usenet posting. I
don't know what type of tech support you provide your customers, but I
would get the customer to do the normal Windows troubleshooting; i.e.,
scan for viruses and spyware, minimize the programs/services running
the background, etc.

Good luck,

Malke

I have seen similar problems that wound up being caused by corrupted
user profiles. The solution in these was to create another administrator
user and do the install from that profile.
