Install windows 2000 from Hard Disk

Paul

I have a notebook that does not have a CD rom drive, and
wanted clean-install windows 2000 on it. I partitioned the
hard drive and copied my windows 2000 CD onto drive D (I
did this through a network between the Notebook and my PC
while windows 98 was on the system).

I then wiped the drive C partition (which contained my
OS), created the four boot disks, and attempted to install
windows 2000. The bootdisk process runs fine, but when
that process is completed, setup searches for a CD rom
drive (which does not exist), and states that it cannot
complete the instalation.

My question is thus, how can I tell setup to complete
installation from the D drive, and not to look for a CD
rom drive.

Any help, or references to a help site or page is greatly
appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Paul.

I would download and create a floppy bootdisk image from www.bootdisk.com
(like a 98 boot disk), boot up your PC with it -
When it says "Starting Windows 98..." hit 'F8.'
You should get a safe-mode start-up menu. Select 'Command-prompt only'

You should be able to get to your D: drive and run the Windows 2000 setup
that way.

Good luck Paul!

Use your old start-up disk, find the I386 directory in D: and execute
winnt.exe.
