Install W2K XP Pro onto Separate Partition

Mike

I've got a Dell 8200 W2K Pro. Using partition magic I created a boot magic
partiton and ntfs partition for W2K Pro XP.
The W2K Pro XP CDs came from Dell. Before replacing W2K Pro w/ XP I want to
install XP into a separate partition,
but when I boot to the xp partition w/ the xp upgrade cd it won't boot and
load xp. How can I install xp w/o
first installing w2k pro then upgrading to xp pro?

Thanks,

Mike

Boot into Windows 2000. Give the partition your recently created a name,
like Win_XP. Boot from the Windows XP CD. Choose the new install option.
Format the newly named partition using the NTFS file system. Install Windows
XP. If the Windpws XP is an upgrade version, you may need to insert the
Windows 2000 Pro CD when prompted.

Partitions: c:\w2k pro fat32, d:\bootmagic fat, d:\ntfs named win_xp.
there is nothing installed on d:\. Want to install xp on d:. xp cd is
upgrade cd
Boot to d:\ Not a bootable cd. error message is ntldr failed or something
closed to it.

You are confusing OSs here. There is no W2K Pro XP. There is Windows
2000 and Windows XP Pro. Not one product that encompasses them both.

Semantics. Windows XP Pro and W2K Pro.
