Install Recovery Console ?

Hi,
I'm trying to install the recovery console, but it says 'setup cannot
continue because the version of windows on your computer is newer than the
version on the cd'.

That's strange because i reloaded the pc with the ibm recovery program (no
cd), and i'm not trying to use a cd to install the recovery console.

It's an xp pc with service pack 2 installed. Does anyone know why or how i
can install the recovery console. Thanks.

What exactly do you mean by "install recovery console"? Recovery console is
something you boot to, not install.

Try this link, item 21. It eventually shows how to do it without needing
a "slipstreamed" cd, although you will have to download the SP2 pack
(I've already have the download and can email you the extracted file if
you so choose).

It's an optional part of the Win XP installation. For instnce, on
my Acer notebook it was not installed and I had to install it
myself.

If you have upgraded to SP2 you need a CD including SP2 before you can
install the recovery console from it

Would it be possible for you to include the SP2 extracted file
(winnt32.exe) on your site so that people would not have to download the
complete, large SP2 patch.?

Although I have not followed the procedure yet, it appears that one only
needs the small file above from a 250MB+ download - this is really tough
for people on dial-up. Anyway, just a suggestion.

Thanks,
Harvey

Michael,

the only winnt32.exe file I found on my computer is WINNT32.EXE-07CE5394.pf
and it is located in \WINDOWS\Prefetch

is this same file you reference in you FAQ?
Replace the winnt32.exe file in c:\windows\i386 with the identically
named file in C:\sp2files\i386 (or in the i386 folder in the folder where
you extracted the files)

FYI. You can also install it on a registered version of XP from an
evaluation CD copy of XP that includes SP2 (like the ones that comes with any
of the Microsoft Training Kits such as 70-270, 70-271, 70-272, etc).
