Install hangs as well as startup repair

I have tried to install the official Vista release on my HTPC based on ASUS
P5B-VM MB, and the install procedure hangs after the final reboot before the
installation procedure will finish the installation. After the reboot, I can
see the MS logo and the progress bar for a while, but after the the screen
gets black and stays so forever. I get see some small blinks on the disk LED,
but nothing happens even if I wait for hours. If I reboot the system I end up
with a message the startup failed. I've tried safe mode, but I get the
message Windows can't finalize the installation in safe mode.

I have also tried to use the automatic startup repair tool by rebooting the
DVD. This one also hangs analyzing my system for hours.....

The funny thing I made my first Vista installation on this machine a week
ago and had the same kind problem. But one day I found the computer up and
running with a full Vista installation! I had XP on that machine as well, and
by mistake I had rebooted the machine and it went into the Vista startup
without my attendance. After that everything worked fine. Now I have replaced
the disk in this machine so I had to make a new installation again and I'm
stuck again with the same problem. I have waited for hours to be sure it's
not just slow progress with no result. This is really strange and I don't
know how solve this problem.

I have searched the net, and found one post in this thread late last year
indicating exactly the same problem, but unfortunately I could not find any
solution.

Any clue????

"I have tried to install the official Vista release..."

Startup Repair is not going to help you until you get it installed. What's
the ***source of your Vista RTM DVD? If you burned it, the burn is the most
common cause of setup difficulties.

I have burned my own copy of Vista RTM, downloaded from MSDN. But still I
think it's a long shot to blame the DVD media. I used two different DVDs in
my attempts. The first try was with the 64bit version and the second with the
32bit.

I will verify the DVD against the image file to be sure. I will also make a
try to remove my Nvidia display adapter and use the embedded adapter on the
MB to see if this makes any difference.

I have an official OEM Home Premium 64x DVD and I'm getting the same problem
after the first re-boot the computer hangs.

I have tried different bios settings, but still the same problems. Does
anyone rekon a bios update would help?

I too am having this problem with the official Partner Program "Business"
upgrade disk. I have tried to install it on two different PCs (both of which
are capable of running any version of Vista) and get to the same point each
time. At approxinately 65% of the final stage the screen goes blank and all
disk activity stops. I even left one PC like this all day just to see if I
was being too impatient during my previous attempts.

I've now found that Resetting my bios to default settings allows me to get
passed this problem and install Vista correctly!!!
