Install freezes during expanding files

I recently installed a fresh copy of XP and partitioned an extra 40GB drive
in anticipation of Vista.

I tried installing Vista Beta 2 from a burned disc AND from a virtual drive.
In both cases the install goes fine, but then after the restart it freezes at
44% while expanding.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Some thoughts, as I've run into similar on past builds:

- When you create the install partition, don't format it from XP or any
other drive tool, allow instead for Vista setup to do that. Sometimes this
seems to help, though it shouldn't make any difference.

- Make sure that antivirus detection schemes in the system BIOS are
disabled, these interfere with setup writing to the boot sector.

- If you are installing to other than hd0, make sure nothing is locking it
down where Vista cannot write to the boot sector. This is especially so with
third party boot managers that allow you to hide partitions. If Vista cannot
write to the boot sector, setup will halt with a hardware error (often a
freeze or random stop error).
