Install Error: 10

get the following error message when trying to reinstall Symantec
LiveUpdate. The Symantec folks had me uninstall LiveUpdate because they said
my files were corrupted, but I have been unable to reinstall. They do not
seem to have a clue on how to resolve this error. Please note that I am
logged on with Administrator priviledges.

Install Error: 10
The LiveUpdate install failed because LiveUpdate was not able to register
one of its components. You need to have write access to the registry to
install LiveUpdate.

I still cannot install LiveUpdate. By the "Services" key, does the script to
the shortcut that you provided to me mean right click the applicable branch
(e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE). Also, when I try to follow the script to for
adding the applicable permissions, the check mark that I add for Step #9
disappears when I click "Apply" in Step #11. Also, there is no "CREATOR
OWNER" account in the permissions tab. Also, when I hit the services keys
provided in Step 13, I experience some of the same problems.

I also noted on the NET that another problem that could produce an Install
Error: 10 message could perhaps be that the LiveUpdate software was not
properly removed. When I search for LiveUpdate in the Registry, I find
several entries that are still in the Registry that should have been deleted
when the software was uninstalled. Any ideas??

If the "CREATOR OWNER" is not listed, you can add it by clicking the "Add"
button and then typing "CREATOR OWNER". Then give Full Control to the
following accounts:

1. Administrators
2. SYSTEM
3. CREATOR OWNER

If that does not help, see if there are any "Special permissions" set in the
Advanced tab. There should not be any, by default.

Regarding your 2nd question, I don't know if a partial uninstallation of
LiveUpdate causes this. See if Symantec support can help you in that matter.
