Install Access 07 when Office 03 installed?

HI -

I cannot find a place on the MS site to ask this question, so I am
desperately asking it here. My apologies to this board.

I have Office SB 03 on Win XP sp 2. Can I purcahse Access 07 and installl
it successfully AND continue to use the Office 03 prodcuts successfully. I
don't want any problems with the products conflicting. I need Office to
work! Where do I ask this question? Thank you very much in advance.

Differring versions of both Office & their components can usually be
installed without problems, excepting outlook
The only problem is usually with shorcuts, or the later version being the
default when using Explorer
Access07 by default will install to a version specific folder

If you mean compatibility, then the answer is usually only forwards
compatability, or with features that existed in the old version. Once
converted to the new, it can't go back, and, at least in the case of access,
doesn't play nice with older versions of itself.

Short answer is YES.

Longer answer is, you can install Office 2007 and run it with 2003. When
you install it will ask if you want to upgrade your programs. Choose NO for
all (you need to use Custom Install and don't do a typical installation).

Second, when you use Access 2003 and then go to open Access 2007 it will
take quite a long time to open and you'll get an "installing" dialog. You
just need to be patient.

Also, you can set your default database version to be 2000 or 2002-2003 if
you want to be able to open and work on the db with 2003. However, that does
mean you don't get to use some of the nice features of 2007.

And, just so you know - if you have references set in a database to use
Excel 2003, you might run into a problem because it may upgrade the reference
to 2007 when you open it in A2K7 and then not let you set it back to 2003
when you open your db in 2003. I had that exact problem with a db I'm
currently working a contract on so I had to work exclusively with that one on
my laptop which ONLY has 2003 and not 2007 on it.

Thank you for your responses... very fast. I unfortunately did not make
clear (my oversight) in my first post, that the 2003 SB Office suite version
I have does not include Access. So I would be installing Access 2007 as a
solo package onto an Office 2003 machine (without Access). Based on what you
have all siad, it seems that it will work OK. I am worried about different
versions of Office libraries, etc., conflicting with each other and causing
problems. Now I have to figure out how to upgrade and buy JUST Access.

You can upgrade by EITHER:

1. Buy the same Office version that you had with 2003 and then buy a full
version of Access.

2. Buy the upgrade to 2007 Professional (unless you have Home & Student
edition - you have to buy the whole version for that because it doesn't
qualify for upgrade pricing).

Bob both of these options lead me to understand that I need a full version
of 2007 Office (of some flavor) in order to run Access 07. So it sounds like
I cannot just buy Access 07 as a standalone product ? and add it to my
machine 2003 SB version of Office. Is this because of Office
incompatiblility issues; or is it just an MS thing, about their preferred
upgrade path?

Oh, no.. I misunderstood your question. You can buy a full-version of Access
2007 and install it as a stand-alone program. I'm sorry that I didn't
understand your question fully.
