Install 2nd Hard Drive for Many Photos

P

Pedro

I would like to transfer all my digital photos to a second hard drive as
safe backup system to my primary hard drive. Because I am concerned
about the photos not being lost, I am wondering if an external vs. an
internal second hard drive would be better for backup. Also, would it
matter much if the second hard drive worked off a USB plug or a firewire
connection? Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A USB external HD is perhaps the most common. You can buy a large internal
HD (7200rpm) fairly cheap, and a USB adaper case, power supply, and cable.

LAN(TCP/IP) interfaced drive with managment software resident on the drive
are also available.

Firewire is less common, and may cause some problems with getting everything
to work.
We tend to use firewire for video cameras and where possible, DTV/HDTV
recording.

Commodity hard drives (in any combination) are not a reliable backup media.
Get something else (DVD-R, tape, MO ...)
