This lap top has xp sp1. Trying to set the bios(as a non tech) I got into the
bios and got to hilite cd\dvd\cd-r -rw\dvd+rw drive.
I pressed the enter key but nothing happened -I thought I was supposed to
display the boot devices available so I could put ide-cd rom at the top. How
do I do that?

Most BIOS have entries like:
1st Boot Device
2nd Boot Device
3rd Boot Device

You usually pick a boot device from a list of available devices.
You then must 'Save' the changes and then 'Exit' (sometimes called 'Save and
Exit')

Please reread my original post where I am asking for the next step "to
display available boot devices" so I can move IDE-CD ROM to the top!
