Inserting row while retaining formulas

Ia there a way, using Excel 2002, to assure that when you insert rows in a
chart that contains summing formulas, that these formulas will be added
automatically to the new rows to match the existing rows? It seems to happen
haphazzardly. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Also sums at the
end of columns sometimes adjust to the new rows and sometimes they don't.
I there a way to set this up?

Adding to this question: Is there any way, in Excel 2002 or later versions to
add a specified number of rows without have to add them one at a time.
