inserting picture woes (dimensions are wrong)

I'm trying to insert a picture into a word document. With certain photos
they appear "squished" - that is, their dimensions are all wrong. If I try
to write click and format the picture, it pops up an error that reads
"measurement must be between 0% and 10675%". It won't allow me to choose any
of the tabs, so I can't change whatever % it is talking about! This happens
when I try to insert, or copy and paste a photo in. Happens at home only,
not at work. Any suggestions???

It seems to be only vertical pictures. makes them sort of square. And it's
all word documents (word 2003). I emailed the picture to my work computer,
and it's doing the same thing at work now. But if the images orignated from
my work computer, then they're fine.

and it appears to only be the photos that are the original 4x6 size.
Anything that has been cropped to a different dimension (8x10, 5x7, etc.) are
fine. All vertical 4x6's are wrong. Some are squashed and others are
appearing as a really thin long vertical line (like it got squished right to
left) instead of top to bottom. .....??
