Inserting hyperlinks

When I insert a hyperlink into a Powerpoint presentation and then attempt to
use the hyperlink to access a web site using my home computer, I get the
error message 'Cannot locate the internet server or proxy server'. However,
when I take the Powerpoint presentation to work and try to use the hyperlink
on work computers, everything works fine. I assume therefore, that the issue
lies not with the Powerpoint presentation but has something to do with the
way my home computer is configured. Using Internet Explorer at home I access
the internet fine, so there's nothing wrong with my internet connection.
Also hyperlinks inserted into Word documents using my home computer also work
fine. The problem really is just with Powerpoint hyperlinks.

Any ideas how I can resolve the problem? Any help most gratefully received.

Give this a try:

Choose File, Properties. On the Summary tab, see what's in "Hyperlink base"
If anything, delete it, save the presentation, then try the link again

Since posting this this morning I have discovered that if I disable Norton
Internet Security then everything works fine. So anyone know how I can fix
the problem so that I can access the hyperlinks while leaving Norton enabled?

Aha ... thanks for coming back with that, Roy.

I don't use Norton's stuff, but in my software firewall I can tell it to allow or
disallow internet access on a program by program basis. Sounds like you need to
tell Norton that PowerPoint's a respected citizen and to let it do its thing.

Does anybody else here use NIS ... maybe post a reply explaining how to change
this setting? Thanks!
